Shigeki's Comment on the Race

June 18 (Sunday), 1995
Le Mans, La Sarthe, France

Finally the race was over. Weather condition of this year's race was extraordinary bad for past several years. Winning team is McLaren F1 GTR driven by Dalmas, Lehto and Sekiya. Surprisingly enough, or, I would say naturally, four of the top five were McLaren F1. All the team who would compete against this car next year should need a lot of time preparing for this powerful and stable car to be competetive.

Sekiya

Japanese drivers have done a extremely good job in this year. Sekiya who drives McLaren stood on the top of the podium for the first time as a Japanese driver.

Left Keiichi Tsuchiya, Center Kunimitsu Takahashi, Right Akira Iida

Also Team Kunimitsu's Honda NSX has won the first prize of class LM GT2. This red-colored NSX was driven by Kunimitsu, who is the oldest drivers among all the drivers, Tsuchiya, and Iida. After winner's interview, Iida told me that, because this was Kunimitsu's 10th anniversary race at Le Mans, Iida and Tsuchiya wanted to give him a win. Of course it's not an easy job. Iida said that he tried to do as much as he can. Iida, just 25 years old, and Tsuchiya tried to drive more time than Kunimitsu, 55, and they planned to let Kunimitsu drive the last lap. Kunimitsu was really pleased that they've done a great job and he could win the race.

A chekered flag was waved at 4pm

Thank you for reading Le Mans '95 pages. Hope you enjoyed it! I had a great time here in Le Mans. At the end of my pages, I'd like to say thank you to all the people who supported and realized this project.

Thanks again for your access. Hope I could see you again next year!
